COVID-19 Car Wash Towel Safety Suggestions
Posted by Valerie Sweeney on Nov 2nd 2020
In the fall issue of Northeast Carwasher, our very own Valerie Sweeney wrote an article listing helpful COVID-related towel tips to implement at your wash. Here are 7 tips to help you get the most out of your towels during the pandemic:
Tip #1: Wash your towels more often. It will help ease your employees’ minds.
Tip #2: After each vehicle, wash the towels used on the interior of the car. Even though it may increase your laundry, it’s the safe decision.
Tip #3: Provide some disposable towel options for your customers. Some customers may not feel comfortable sharing towels and might not understand used towels normally go in a sperate bin afterwards.
Tip #4: Use a color-coded system for your towels if you don’t already. Keep body, window, and detail towels separate, and add a new color for frequently touched surfaces like steering wheels.
Tip #5: When washing cotton towels, use higher heat than normal. (This does NOT apply to microfiber towels which melt in high heat.)
Tip #6: Think about switching to all microfiber. It doesn't harbor bacteria which is why it’s used in healthcare for cleaning and mopping floors.
Tip #7: It might be a good idea to order extra towels and other supplies to have on hand. With all the global supply chain and shipping issues, it’s better to have more so you don’t run out.
