The Do's And Dont's Of Washing Microfiber Towels

In the Summer issue of Northeast Carwasher, our very own Valerie Sweeney wrote an article explaining the best ways to wash your microfiber towels, which differs from washing cotton towels. Read below for her top 5 tips to get the most longevity from your microfiber.
1. Do Wash Regularly:
Microfiber towels should be washed after each use to avoid contaminants from setting in the fibers. This will help ensure successful future cleanings.
2. Don't Use Fabric Softener:
Do not use fabric softener. It will neutralize the microfiber's natural positive charge, making it ineffective at picking up dirt.
3. Do Keep Them Separated:
Never wash microfiber towels with cotton towels. Cotton towels release lint when washed, which will cause your microfiber towels to lose their lint-free nature. The dirtiest microfiber should also be washed in its own load.
4. Don't Use Bleach:
Avoid using bleach to remove stains from your microfiber. Bleach will decrease the lifespan of your microfiber towels as well as their effectiveness.
5. Don't Overload or Overheat:
Keep your wash/dry load capacities at 85-90 percent capacity. Air drying is the preferred method for microfiber and will increase their lifespan. When machine drying, select a low, cool setting, no more than 140 degrees Fahrenheit, to keep the fibers from melting.
